Home Ground - craft, clubs and communities - Sat 20 Sep 2014 -Sun 09 Nov 2014
Open daily 10am-5.30pm. Free.
A touring exhibition & project based on craft, clubs & communities
The exhibition celebrates home-grown making. Home Ground will showcase the work of contemporary craftmakers using materials which are locally distinct, mainly natural or recycled, to make work about their home location or sense of place. The exhibition explores different ways local heritage has been kept alive through craft - from traditional skills and resources, to contemporary installations.
- the community project runs workshops at a range of UK venues where people create craft work based on 6 local football clubs' links to regional industries - such as Walsall FC 'Saddlers', Shefflied United's 'Blades', Luton Town FC 'Hatters', etc.
Group work based on the towns' local heritage and 'home-grown' materials, will be created, along with specialy commissioned pieces made by professional artists, who also lead workshops - at football clubs and other community venues. A focussed exhibition about this project work will open at the Devon Guild in 2016 called: Souvenirs from Home
