Heidi Warr | Ceramics | Somerset

Heidi Warr designs and creates hand-thrown and hand-built earthenware vessels in her studio in Somerset.

Each piece is decorated using traditional methods of fine applications of slip-trailing, sgraffito or incising and various painting and masking techniques using layers of underglaze colours, stains and oxides.

Each stage of decoration is a lengthy meticulous process, creating complex intricate patterns and designs. Every piece is fired at over 1000 Degrees Celsius in a kiln for many hours and completed with high gloss glaze finish.

Heidi’s inspiration includes the old masters, nature and psychology. The pieces she creates are bold statements and merge traditional techniques with contemporary ideas. Heidi describes the vessel of her pots as “a canvas for my designs”.

Heidi feels that her designs must fulfil three important criteria, they must be pleasing from a distance, perfect when inspected closely and that they convey a meaning and a message.

Heidi’s work had been displayed in museums overseas and in the UK, and has been available through a very small number of retail outlets in the UK to a keen collector base.
