Hazel Hindle*

Hazel Hindle | Glass | Devon

Hazel makes fused and slumped glass (known as 'warm glass') in her studio in Totnes.

The vibrancy and translucent nature of coloured glass is what she finds endlessly fascinating, especially those effects that can be achieved when utilising the reactive chemicals that are present in certain colours of glass.

Optical distortions occur when stacks of glass are placed on the surface of a piece and then fused together in the kiln, a technique which gives shapes a fluidity without hands on hot working (blowing glass).

Hazel trained in ceramics and stained glass at Central school of art, (now Central St Martins) which provided an understanding of form, materials and firing kilns.
