Siddy Langley

Siddy Langley| Glass | Devon

In 1979 Siddy embarked on a three year apprenticeship in Rotherhithe in London’s East End. All these years later she is still as excited by the material as she was back then.

She opened her first studio in Maidenhead in 1987 and moved to Devon 10 years later. For the last few years Siddy has been building a new eco-house and studio and is delighted that so much of what used to be waste heat from the glassblowing process is now recycled, providing domestic hot water and heating.

There is an organic quality to Siddy's work. Much of her inspiration comes from exploring the glorious Devon countryside surrounding her home. She has a passion for nature and (arguably) wastes far too much time watching the comings and goings of the wildlife in her garden and pond. Scuba diving has been a lifelong interest and the sea is evoked in many of her designs. There is a quiet, meditative state that comes with being underwater and that is echoed in Siddy’s working practice: where glassblowing is usually considered a team activity, Siddy prefers to work alone and can enter that same meditative state - at one with the glass.
