Jane Watts | Leather | Devon

Hand crafted bags, belts and leather goods. Jane’s work takes you on a journey of craftsmanship and coastal living.

For the South Hams based leather and metal worker life revolves around the sea. Taking selected pieces of salvaged metal from South West shipwrecks she individually forges buckles and fittings to be used on her hand stitched belts, bags and leather goods.

Jane is all about making functional items with an element of the unexpected. The making process is a major design feature, from the exposed hand stitching to the patina of the metal all evidence of hand made. Her work is robust and made to be worn and used every day, to spark conversation, and to embrace the beauty and simplicity of traditional crafts.

“Our seas and coast hold an abundance of discarded metals waiting to be found. There is an element of excitement when removing the concretion to reveal pieces of metal last seen 100 plus years ago. The challenge is then to create a piece that continues to live with a completely new purpose!’

Jane is happy to discuss made to measure and commissions.
