Nancy Murgatroyd*

Nancy Murgatroyd | Printmaking | Devon

Nancy relishes linocut printing because it is complicated, intellectually challenging and addictive; such a lovely way of mark making which refines an idea to capture its essence, whilst delighting in all the abstract elements the medium supports.

Whether working in black and white or with subtle tones and vibrant overlays of colour she experiments with different combinations which change and develop the mood of a piece of work.

Her prints are designed to be gently whimsical. Each image conveys an emotion; comfort, joy, empathy, sadness, or frustration at the ways of the world. She finds linocutting her way to self expression cathartic in itself. If it encourages someone else to think about some of the topics that is a real bonus.
